Whether you are looking for yourself or a loved one, the first step to choosing a senior living community is understanding the differences between the types of senior living. Senior living communities range in levels of care, with independent living being one of the more relaxed. In this article, we will look at what independent living is.
What is Independent Living?
When you begin to think about and look into independent living communities, it’s usually because your loved one values their independence and isn’t in need of a lot of daily care, but you want them to make sure they are looked after. Often, independent living residents want to spend more time doing the things the love; they want to be in a community of like-minded individuals where they can find support and companionship. The independent living environment allows seniors to keep their independence while having the security and help of a caring community.
Independent living community is usually an apartment, condominium, a small home in a village environment, or something similar with a lot of amenities. You will often find a community center and gym with equipment and programs geared for seniors, a beauty parlor, a community shuttle that can provide transportation to and from local locations, and some sort of a meal program. Some communities might have the ability to bring in medical staff to assist in general physical needs such as blood pressure checks, and oxygen levels, sugar levels, things like that
Magnolia Estates is an independent living facility.
We offer Independent Living as a level of what you can have if you’re looking to come out of your home. We offer meal plans, activities, and housekeeping if needed. We do offer local transportation and have on site beauty parlors. We even a little concierge service. In other words, if somebody needs help with their doctor’s appointments, or needs help managing (not necessarily administering) their medicines, or managing their clinical, their medical, their doctors – we can assist them. The things that they’ve need to do, we can help them do that.
At our independent living villas, we can’t go and do the same things that we would at our assisted living house due to the rules and regulations. We do keep a very watchful eye on everyone. I think that’s a big, when it comes to people looking for an Independent Living environment, I think people are more concerned about security, and being helped, and being watched.
Oversight is very important these days, especially for the elderly. They want their independence, but they want to be somewhere where they know the owners and the staff is providing some oversight. Watching what’s going on around them, being aware of who’s on the property, being aware of what their wants and needs are, that’s what people want, and that’s what they need, especially this day and time.
